From Dr. James' Teachings
Klean Lax was designed as a very effective, yet gentle laxative. Some people take laxatives and become addicted to them; this herbal formula is different. Klean Lax is not addictive. Using this formula will relieve the immediate problem, but it will not (and cannot) solve the underlying cause. It cannot change poor digestive function, an abusive diet, or whatever else may be causing the constipation. As a temporary remedy, Klean Lax can make a real difference. Remember, though, it is important to deal with the root problem, find out what it is, and take the necessary steps to correct it.
There are three components to good digestion: enough bulk, lubrication, and moisture. There is a lot of truth to the old saying, "You are what you eat." If you eat crap, you feel like crap, and when you go to the bathroom, you smell like crap. If you want to get the crap out of your life, stop eating so much of it! Quit believing everything you hear on TV. Food is never advertised on TV, on the radio, or very often in printed material. Only "food products" are advertised. If we're going to take back our lives, we must eat the best food we can get, not "food products." Lazy food makes a lazy colon. When you eliminate refined carbohydrates from your diet and center your meals around starch, with a little protein and a little oil, constipation won't be a part of your life.

From My Practice
One thing I appreciate about Klean Lax is that I don't use it the way I use many other formulas. With most formulas, I may begin with a higher amount to help someone experience results more quickly, then gradually reduce to the smallest effective maintenance amount. Klean Lax is just the opposite. I prefer to begin with the smallest amount likely to help, then gradually increase until we find the amount that produces comfortable, regular bowel movements. Once we find that "sweet spot," that's usually where we stay.
Klean Lax encourages movement through the bowels, which naturally softens the stool as it moves. It is not intended to produce uncontrolled diarrhea. When I want to support stool consistency and help create comfortable, well-formed bowel movements, I often pair it with Kolonic Kaps. The two formulas complement one another beautifully because each serves a different purpose.
People often worry that using a laxative will become habit-forming. In my experience, that concern is often misunderstood. If constipation is caused by poor digestive function, diet, hydration, or other underlying factors, taking a laxative without addressing those issues means the constipation is likely to return. That doesn't necessarily mean you are dependent on the formula. It means the original cause is still there. My goal is to use Klean Lax as a helpful tool while we work to improve the underlying factors contributing to constipation. As those improve, many people find they need less Klean Lax, use it only occasionally, or no longer need it at all.
One of my goals with clients is to help them achieve regular, healthy bowel function. In my practice, I encourage working toward at least two healthy bowel movements each day. Many people have lived with constipation for so long that they no longer recognize it as a problem. Restoring healthy elimination is often an important step toward improving overall digestive health.

Your needs may change from day to day depending on your diet, hydration, activity level, stress, travel, medications, and many other factors. Pay attention to your body's response and adjust the amount as needed to support healthy, balanced bowel function.
For many people, Klean Lax works especially well when used alongside Kolonic Kaps. The two formulas complement one another and can be adjusted independently to support healthy, comfortable elimination. If you would like to learn more about using these formulas together, please see the Kolonic Kaps literature or my article, The Quest for Regularity: Understanding Klean Lax and Kolonic Kaps.
The directions on the bottle provide a general starting point, not a fixed rule.
Klean Lax is different from many supplements because the ideal amount depends on how your bowels are functioning rather than the severity of a condition. Begin with 1 or 2 capsules daily and adjust gradually according to your results. The goal is to encourage comfortable, regular bowel movement while allowing your body to find its own healthy rhythm.
