From My Own Practice

Comfrey Gold salve is one of those things I think everyone should have on hand. I use it much the same way someone else might reach for Neosporin or another first-aid ointment, except I find myself using Comfrey Gold for far more than cuts and scrapes. It is simple, versatile, and useful for so many everyday things that once you have a jar around, you tend to find more and more reasons to reach for it.

I have used Comfrey Gold salve for years, both in my practice and at home. I use it for minor cuts and scrapes, bruised or tender areas, dry and irritated skin, and very dry or chapped lips. It is also phenomenal for diaper-area irritation. I recommend it often because it isn't something you have to buy for one particular purpose. It is simply a good salve to have in the house, much like you would keep an antiseptic or first-aid cream on hand.

One of my favorite uses for Comfrey Gold is for the nose. During allergy or sinus season, or anytime the inside of the nose becomes dry, irritated, or sore from wiping and blowing, I put a tiny amount on the tip of a cotton swab and gently swab it just inside the nostrils. I even use it when the nose is runny but the tissues themselves are becoming irritated. It can also be used as a lip balm, an eye makeup remover, or externally as a personal lubricant. It is simply one of those wonderfully useful products that I recommend keeping around because you may buy it for one reason and end up using it for half a dozen others.

Application

Simply apply a small amount where needed and reapply as necessary. Use for:

  • Minor cuts and scrapes

  • Chapped lips

  • Dry or irritated skin

  • Bruised areas

  • Diaper-area irritation

  • For the nose, place just a small amount on the tip of a cotton swab and gently apply it just inside each nostril.

  • When removing eye makeup, use a small amount to loosen the makeup and gently wipe it away, and don't worry if you get the salve directly in the eyes.

Traditional Uses of the Contents

  • Beeswax helps protect the skin, hold in moisture, and provides the salve with a protective barrier and staying power.
